Justice Javed Takes oath as Acting Chief Justice of Pakistan



ISLAMABAD: Senior most judge in Supreme Court of Pakistan, Justice Javed Iqbal, took oath as Acting Chief Justice of Pakistan here Thursday,

Justice Sardar RAza Khan administered the oath of Justice Iqbal in a ceremony held here at Supreme Court.

Justice Javed Iqbal would perform his duties as acting CJP in the absence of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry who is presently on a visit to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah.

Talking to newsmen after taking oath, Justice Javed assured the newsmen that the case of missing persons would soon be taken up by the apex court.

He said that the court had decided to constitute a committee to resolve the issue of missing persons during the last hearings of the case. He said that 101 missing people were recovered on court’s order and the remaining would also be found.

Justice Javed said there was a difference of opinion on actual number of missing persons. He asked the media to ‘highlight’ the recovery of these persons by the court.

Acting CJP said that the judiciary would not cross its limit, maintaining that the institutions should not adopt a cross of collision. He said that Parliament has its own defined-business and the judiciary is not a law making institute.
